Main shaft hard to move

Replaced the waterpump and the main shaft takes a lot of strength to rotate by hand. Is this normal? Looks like since the impeller is grabbing onto the housing the stiffness of the main shift should be normal

Re: Main shaft hard to move

With a new impeller it takes more muscle to turn as the friction has increased from the new impeller.
Take the pump off and see if it's still hard to turn.
Still hard, a bearing has siezed.
All the parts back on right?
Sometimes the prop thrust washer gets forgotten???
Put prop on and turn.If the lower is on it's gonna be real hard to turn.

It's norm. A new impeller still has to take its form. For now it is pushing very hard against the water pump housing hence the resistance. After about two trips from the lake it will loosen up. Unless, of course you are trying to rotate it against the normal direction which is CW looking down from the top.
