Re: Major mistake. what to do. wrong crankshaft

alright guys, I am at the point that I am willing to make my boat the guinea pig and make some type of adapter myself. I am going to start by finding and ordering the proper 8 spline end to use as an end. Cut off the 13 spline end on my pump shaft and make a coupler of some kind. I am finding a bunch of PTO couplers for tractors but no luck on 8 spline. If it breaks then who cares, I would have had to change out the crank anyway. I will just have to buy a new pump shaft.

Come on guys bring on the ideas. seriously, no joke, lets get something made up.

Its gotta work. Cut off 13 spine end, weld on 8 spline end to the cut pump shafy, but i was also thinking of adding a coupler covering both shafts and welding it at each end also...

A heat treated spline adapter from any quality manufacturer ie Moser, Dutchman, Strange etc. is going to be as strong or stronger than any OEM shaft. Anything breaks it will be the crank or the OEM shaft.

I wouldnt weld one to save my life.

Re: Major mistake. what to do. wrong crankshaft

DONE DONE AND DONE!! The new shaft has been made. They cut the old splines off, spigotted the new piece, heat treated them both, welded and resplined and trued.... All put back together, FINALLY. After putting everything back in and reconnecting everything i've ran into a different issue. Its not getting any fuel. The pump is working you can clearly here it. I disconnected the outlet side to see if anything is being pump from the fuel tank.... nothing. You can hear a gurgling sound though. I did notice a cracked anti-syphon valve. So just to quickly eliminate it I sealed it with a flexible thick rubber tape (just a quick fix to troubleshoot). Still the same thing.. Any suggestions?

lol It doesn't take very much of an air leak to keep from pulling any fuel, just air.

Grab a portable test tank and hose, connect to your fuel hose or pump and see it it pulls fuel now. If not then double check the valves in the pump. Or just order a fuel pump rebuild kit, cheap enough.
