make my own cowl hood 1988 90hp?

hello, i am the owner of a 1989 merc 90hp "INLINE" 3 cylinder.....hahaha<br /><br />but seriously, <br /><br />i have the cowl hood that splits in two and hinges in the back and opens<br />like a book, kinda. i hate this, its hard to open on the boat, and its big<br />and cumbersome, why couldnt merc just follow everybody else and make usable<br />cowl hoods.<br /><br />can i , using some fiberglass and reall light wieght cloth, could i slice it<br />in half and make a bottom and a top, just like the omc's and the suzukis and<br />the yamahas and, well, just like EVERYBODY but merc<br />

this is the style hood i have.<br /><br />anybody ever tried or have any words of wisdom?<br /><br />mike

I have the same thing on my 83 150 and rather like it. At least I don't have to take the whole thing off to check something on one side. But then that might just be my age. LOL

Why not fabricate a 1 piece cover that goes over the smaller motors ? You just need to make up some stainless steel catches around the base. You could use the existing one as a mould and that way you can keep it in case the project fails. BTW Mike.. Just HOW MANY motors do you need ???
