I have a 2001 30 hp ob that is on a Whaler 13 that is kept in salt water at a marina all summer. We have had some problems with it salting up the thermostat and the poppet which are at the top of the block, port side. My guess is they don't completely drain so after a season of only weekend use they get crusty.
It's too difficult to put the earmuffs on with the boat in the water to flush it that way so, I was thinking of adding my own flush kit by using the two 1/8 NPT fittings on the cylinder water jackets. Then plumbing some tubing over the the front side and put some kind of fitting to connect a fresh water hose at the dock. Has anyone done this? Will it flush the whole block and the water pump? The Merc service manual doesn't show water jacket diagram. Thanks for the help. Tony
