Lightening it up a little. Imagine this: a man, dating a woman, misses a couple of signs, (you know the ones no man ever sees but is expected to react to.) and messes up an already disasterous day for girlfriend.

Looking for ways to make up for faux paus. I have already used flowers, day spa, dinner, in the past and I need something on the creative side, albeit inexpensive to ease the tension. Diamonds may be a girls best friend but christmas is around the corner, and I hate to dilute my christmas gift.

The gorillagram may be a little off base. This girl actually loves my boat, dog and sense of humor so lets not go to the adult book store here.

I am sure there are hundreds, no thousands, no millions of guys out there who had spent time in the self dug grave, and I would be interested in how they got themselves out.

Let er rip!

Doug

Stay very quiet and as close to invisible as you can for a few days (length of time varies according to the offense). This allows her to calm down and avoids saying things that can't be unsaid. Then approach her with a small gift, joke or some nonsensical thing. Let her use the opportunity to blast you, calling you everything but a christian. This allows her to get all the stuff she's been fuming about off her chest but at the same time it's not so fresh that she goes running off to mama. When she finally comes up for air laugh and say "You're right but I still love you." or something along those lines. It has worked for me for 27+ years.

You didn't do anything wrong, you missed a couple of signs. Guys miss signs, that's what we do, and we are good at it ;) . We are not mind readers, tell us when there is something wrong so we don't mess up worse. OK, she had a miserable day, cook her a nice dinner, a little soft music, candles--tell her you are sorry she had a rough day and ask her if there is anything you can do. Hopefully she'll tell you, and even better, maybe she'll say there's nothing you can do, and apoligize for taking it out on you. :D

Run her a bubble bath with candels. Wash her hair. While your washing her hair, tell her this: "I'm an idiot.......I'm sorry.....I love you."

Re: Man dug a hole, jumped in and threw dirt on himself!

buy her a nice expensive GPS or a LCD plotting fishfinder with GPS, lots of waypoints, and teach her how to use it ... lets her feel involved with the boat, and she knows youll spend some $$$ on her

this usually doesnt get me into more trouble, and ocasionally does get me a little grace

After hearing about, OH YOU BOUGHT YOURSELF ANOTHER GIFT FOR YOURSELF, but with enough explaining ...

:p

POINTER94, so you missed a couple of signs, was it some comment she said and you missed because you wern't really listening, hummm, that sounds familar, I did this for many years until someone finally told me the reason God gave up 2 ears and one mouth is that we should listen twice as much as we talk. After I applied that advice my relationship with people in general and women in particular improved tremendously. The art of conversation is really the art of listening, good luck with your relationship, hope this helps and for what it's worth it's just my 2 cents,,, ;)

(sorta like when I did the first full throttle accelleration of the little guy in front of a speeding peterbilt tractor trailer rig  )( Im still here, guess it passed the test, lol)

(and to think, when I was 18 I had to tie pork chops around my neck to get DOGS to play with me, lol, where was this dammed internet when I was a kid????? ) (yeah I know, stuck inside Al Gore's head  )

just say, I dont know what I was thinking, still love me even if I screw up? Re: Man dug a hole, jumped in and threw dirt on himself!

I'm 50. I've dated lots of ladies, married two, and lived with a couple. My best advice for you is:

RUN!!!!!!!!
The first months should give you a strong indication of her personality. This is just the begining, but if you stay with this one, she'll end-up owning your soul. Been there-done that-have two tee shirts (not listed in devorce case hearings).

Re: Man dug a hole, jumped in and threw dirt on himself!

Good news,

Background: She called me and told me she was having a bad day so I invited her for dinner. I didn't tell her that dinner was with a bunch of my Territory sales and Regional sales manager buddies. I guess this is not what she was expecting. After talking for 3-4 hours and countless beverages we went home. I got froze out on the way home.

Well after letting it sit for a day I got the apology and I didn't have to do anything. As this is our first "fork in the road" in 10months of dating, and I might have, repeat might have been smart to tell her what was going on before dinner, I consider this a big win.

Now anything I do, should just make me look like more of a gentleman than I already am. - a very sensitive one at that. :D

So tonight I have selected the bubble bath treatment. I have almost everything I need, wine, shampoo, a tub and running water. Candles, Mr. Bubble, and a Shrimp cocktail plate need to be purchased. Thanks Soulwinner.

Ray I know exactly how you feel. Being divorced and thirty eight, with no kids, a good job and of course a boat sure has made life somewhat more interesting. When I was 17 I was 5'6" and about 130lbs, By the time I was 23, I was 6'4" and 195lbs. Now I am a little closer to 225lbs but in Wisconsin that puts me below the weight limit. And yes, what could be a more thoughtful than a GPS chartplotter for her christmas gift, buddy there is always a cold one at my place for you!!!

Thanks All, Doug
