ok, rebuilding 4.3 lxgen+ installing push rods and rocker assembly. Merc#18 say to torque to 20lb. no adjustment or sequence. Seloc says to use a sequence and tighten 1 turn after the lash is out. the trouble is, that Seloc has a miss print that says to adjust #3 intake in both sequences, and nothing about #3 exhaust. HELP

Re: manual question?

I replied to your email, like I have always said, avoid those aftermarket manuals. Too much wrong information.

Re: manual question?

JK, that may work great on some older V6's but if his has stepped rocker studs that the rocker pivot torques down against, then it doesn't get adjusted that way.
I suspect his does, that is why I ask him for a picture of his rocker studs.

Re: manual question?

Since it really a'int highjacking....The lift is determined by the length of the push rods? & if you mixed them up, it would be bad, correct?....JK

Re: manual question?

JK
All the pushrods are the same. The lifters can do it all. NOW, if the lifters are messed up due to all the water.............

Re: manual question?

No compression on any of the cylinders? Or just the same 2 you had the other day.
Could be bad lifters from the water problem.

Re: manual question?

no compression anywhere. it was running when i set it up by the Seloc method, but had the pop and # 3 exhaust wasn't adjusted because seloc said to adjust #3 intake in both steps, which i did not catch that till this AM. but with the seloc method i can't keep the nuts on. every thing moves like its suppose to. can turn over with a 3/8 drive wrenth on the HB bolt. thanks, i'm just frustrated. time for a cold one.

Re: manual question?

It will turn easily because you have no compression.....JK

Re: manual question?

You're probably going to have to remove the lifters, take them apart, clean all that thick milky oil/water mixture out of them and put them back together to make them work. They are all pumped up and aren't adjusting like the should.

Re: manual question?

Diesel would work fine, just remember to keep things spotless. It takes almost nothing to prevent a lifter from working properly. Do ONE at a time and don't mix the parts.
After you finish cleaning them, put them back in and without the plugs in crank the engine and build up oil pressure and make sure the all adjust properly before you put the intake back on.

Re: manual question?

PURRRRRS LIKE A KITTEN. lifter were so gummed up it took me a while to figure out how they came apart. couldn't have done it with out compressed air, 3 good diesel baths a lotta air, clean environment, and a lot of getting in/out the boat. merc dealer wants $650 to do the bellows and impellor. couple more changes of oil i hope it will be good. THANKS to everyone how helped and good luck to everyone trying this. it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. do what they say here, especially Don S. special thanks.
