I'm having a hard time adjusting the shell on the cable because the plastic clamp that holds the cable is breaking. I need to replace it.

I'm also thinking of replacing the cable, but I'm not sure if I can. The newer style has a plastic nut that connects it to the cylinder. My cable has a metal thing that I would need maybe vice grips to loosen. I've also read that some of the older units had cables that could not be replaced and I'm wondering if I have a unit like that.

Here's a picture of a newer unit found on this board:

What do you guys think? Can I change my cable?

Please RESIZE your pictures to fit the forum. 1990 has the non replaceable cable.

Re: Manual tilt assist cylinder cable

Sorry, thought I had the size right. Fixed now.

So I just ordered the clamp sine mine is broken. Part number 0324952....$29. Ouch....I need to go into the plastics manufacturing business.....

Hoping I can get the tilt assist adjusted properly with a new un-cracked clamp and new shell. I think the cylinder is fine.
