Re: marine amplifier
daverulz,
I have a question?
I am going to use Polk MM651's (speaker), and so I will need an amp to power them correctly.
I am only going to have 2 speakers and no subwoofer. I just want to keep it simple.
Can I use a 4-Channel amp at 4 ohms, so I only use 25 amps versus 50 amp draw at 2 ohms?
The Polk speakers are rated at 2 ohms or 2.7 ohms 100 watt RMS (200 Max watts).
I was thinking Clarion, MB Quart, Sony or JL Audio. I was considering JL Audio M2150. I was told that I should look for an amp that falls inbetween the rating of the speaker. In this case, 100w(rms) - 200w(max). The Polk audio tech told me nothing less than 75wx2 RMS. But, in order to save a few dollars, I was going to lean towards the Clarion or MB Quart.
As a note: I was told by Polk that the db651's where not completely sealed around the edge or in the middle - cannot remember. Anyway, the reason he recommended the MM651's because they're completely sealed. Otherwise, I would go with the db651's because they have great reviews.
