marine battery vs auto

Do I really need a marine battery if all I use it for is for starting the motor? We don't use the radio and don't have a trolling motor. The only physical difference I see is the post setup.

... nope, i run a Motorcraft Tough series for my starting battery an has been an excellent battery.

Thank you, I thought it was OK. My original 9 year old battery finally gave up. They just don't build em like they used to..lol

What i was told was if you are going to use lots of battery draining electronics or pound your boat over the water use an marine rated battery. If you use your boat mostly on calm water with very little battery drain an auto battery will work OK. A marine battery is made to withstand large discharges and the jolting around it can get out on the water.Most auto battery's are made to be kept at an constant charge with little abuse.
