I recently bought a 175 hp Mariner outboard that only has 20 hrs. from a family friend. The engine was not started in 2 yrs, so I changed the gas, fuel filter, and I added fuel conditioner to the gas. The engine starts up fine, but you have to give it a little gas; however, after running for 15 min or longer if you let off the throttle it will not idle. Instead, it will start to putter until it dies, and then if you try to start it up again it will not start unless you give it some time to sit. I can start it everyday, but I can't start it after it initally runs.

I would really appreciate an help.

Re: Mariner 175 efi idle

hello
now you get to look for gasnasties
inspect the high pressure fuel rail for correct pressure. you may have to remove the injectors and have them cleaned.
its time for a thourough testing to include spark and compression.
test and rebuild the low pressure fuel pump as well.
good luck and keep posting
