Recently bought boat(19') with motor above, took for test ride and didn't miss a beat. Went out next day and motored for about 30 mins, engine went from around 4000rpm and died to around 1000 rpm. Managed to limp home at around 10mph. Almost like running on only 2 cylinders. Replaced fuel water seperater and engine filter stripped 3 carbs and blew out jets etc new plugs still the same. Tried aux fuel tank don't think fuel is a problem as carbs etc were clean. Any suggestions

Had the mechanic look at the motor, he put in a new stator, 2 x power packs, rectifier, 2 x coils, 6 x plugs and around 10 hrs labour. Happy to say that the motor is running okay but man she likes drinking gas.

Sounds like your mechanic likes to sell parts, and hasnt the ability to find the problem in the first place. It was probably just one of those parts that was the problem. Oh well, now you have an all new ignition system! Power on.

Oh, back off the gas a bit when cruising, it will cut your consumption down conciderably!
