Mariner 25 questions

I've just picked up a 25hp Merc made Mariner of the late 80's. It appears this motor does not have a partial tilt position for shallow water operation or am I missing something? Also, the gear shift lever does not want to stay in reverse unless held there. Any ideas? Otherwise, very good condition and 150lbs. on both cylinders.<br />thanks

Newer 25's did have a shallow water kit, suppose it could be backfitted onto you older model, pn's and prices might be available from some of the guys that work at dealerships.<br />Reverse gear: possibility that the shift rod has been unthread a few turns from the Shift cam, I cant remember if it has a set screw or not, could also be your carrier isnt installed all the way or clutch and gear worn out.<br />Cheers
