Hello,

I've got a 2 Stroke Mariner 60 approx. 1995 with problems...

The engine was running at all speeds absolutely fine for about 45 mins, then at about 3/4 speed the revs suddenly dropped and then the engine cut out. After it cut out there was a slick of fuel on the water around the engine.

The engine re-starts fairly easily and will run at low speeds ok, occasionally cutting out on tick over, but as soon as its opened up the revs will drop and stall, leaving a slick of fuel in the water.

The engine has recently been serviced and allegedly the carb has been cleaned and tuned.

Any thoughts, suggestions, wisdom would be much appreciated as I can't really afford more huge repair bills...

Thanks - Ben

Welcome to iboats. :)

I'm guessing you have a leak in the fuel pump. It might be worth a rebuild. Kits are cheap, the job isn't bad. It is 10 years old, afterall.

Hi,

Thanks for such a quick reply, much appreciated.

Is this leak likely to be visable, will it be flooding the engine or starving it of fuel?

Thanks - Ben

Mine is a 95 and it seems that at 10 years the fuel lines are shot. Grab hold of all the lines where they connect and pull/stretch them while shining a good light on them. Be sure to check to skinny lines going to/from the enrichener valve also. Replace all the lines when rebuilding the fuel pump. Do the real small air lines too.

Hello,

One more question, if it was a leaky fuel pump would the fuel be dripping out the exhaust or from somewhere on the engine housing?

I think it may have been dripping out the exhaust, thought i'm not quite sure... going to investigate later today.

Thanks -Ben
