Hey guys, got one for you.

I got a 84 mariner that hadn't been run in a couple months. (2 Cylinder)

Took it out and got it started, but it would go dead when I put it in gear. I ran it for a good while to make sure. I could throttle the engine up and it sound fine.

It didn't seem to be getting fuel pumped into it fast enough. The fuel filter on it now is in the glass case, and it appeared the gas was barely flowing in.

I cleaned and regapped the plugs. (.024), took it back out and it started and went into gear on the first try.

Only problem is that it topped out at about 5 miles per hour.

Is this the carberator?

Thanks in advance

Belive it or not, it sounds like a venting problem... Did you make any adjustments to your fule mixture valve?

I would get rid of the glass filter first and retry a few times(it can starve the engine from fuel -so the experts say)... .And use a cannister filter /seperator instead.Fuel pump may need checking out also. Then I'd check fuel venting, and adjustment screws on motor.
