Hi there,
I have a 1992 Mariner Magnum 40hp that has a trim/tilt issue. Though the trim/tilt will raise and lower the motor, when the motor has been trimmed up it will very slowly fall to the resting position. The fall is very slow, you can barely see it moving. I've never messed with a TnT before, does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should start? Thanks.

First, check that the manual release valve is fully closed. It is either a white or black "large" headed plastic screw on the lower starboard side of the PTT unit. Using a large flathead screwdriver, snug up but don't over tighten this screw.

If it continues to drop, then you more than likely need to replace that release valve. The thing is only plastic (nylon) and if over tightened, the tip breaks off and it no longer seals properly. The valve is inexpensive but I had to remove the PTT unit from the motor to change it out. Not a real big deal, just a PITA.

Thanks for the advice. I tightened up the manual release and was still having the issue. Then I remembered reading somehere (probably here) that sometimes opening the manual release valve and cycling the trim/tilt a few times can allow for it to seal more tightly. So I did so, re-tightened the screw and now the motor will hold trim. Thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction. :)
