mariner vs mercury

How compatible are mariner and mercury parts? Will a foot from an 1985 65hp mariner fit a 67 65hp mercury? 2nd question will the controls on the 67 65hp merc be compatible with a 78 85hp mariner? Thanks

I'm no expert on this, but, my understanding is that the older Mariners are clones of the late '70's Yamahas. Seems more likely parts compatibility would be with the older Yamahas.

Units will not interchange as the 1985 is a 3 cylinder and the 1967 is a 4 cylinder and controls will work with a wiring adapter.
