Mariner Year Identification Help

Hello,
I have an older looking 25 hp mariner. The tag on the hanger bracket is stamped with this code: S 007446 Can someone tell me what year it is an possibly how you found that out?

Manual start, short shaft. Made in japan in 1978.

Your serial number is incomplete, there should be 3 numbers before the 'S'. They should either 648 or 690.

HI; I just acquired a Mariner 8 and I don't know what year it is. The serial # is 647L69635. Can anyone help with the year of manufacture? Thanks, Ed V.

That is good info--but as the poster inquired--how did you come up with the information?? Reason is;I also would like to find out the year model of mine.I'm told it's in the "numbers"???thax in advance,dude11

Depends on the sequence of numbers/letters. In this case, even though the serial number was incomplete, there was only one year that contained the last 6 numbers in a 25hp mariner. This is not always the case.

There are plenty of serial number lists available on the net.

You should really start your own thread with a question like this.

Your motor was made in the early 70's by yamaha. I do not have lists that early so cannot nail down an exact year.
