If you think the small tube of 4000 is enough qty.

For $11, I'd probably get a normal sized caulk tube of 5200 from HD/Lowes, but your price may be higher...

I have a 3oz tube of the 4000. If I am doing just the seam where the splashwell meets the transom skin then that should be enough.

I actually bought 2 of the caulking type tubes at Lowes yesterday, they had it for 9.50...I couldn't believe it.

Edit: ok, I thought about it for 2 seconds and realized if I'm gonna have a tube of 5200 open to do the through wood holes then I might as well use it to seal the aforementioned area.

So, I will seal the transom skin to the splashwell and NOT the transom to the hull.....right?

Re: Marks 1991 16' Starcraft Fishmaster Restoration

I have been quietly working in the background...I've realized that I might be an okay boat rebuilder but I'm a terrible blogger

I will post some pics this weekend but I do have a question...

What would you use to glue Nautolex to itself?

I have an area under the casting deck (it’s a hatch area) that I want to cover some seams...I don't really care what it looks like but I want to close up the area so things don't fall into the bilge. I know I can staple to the deck but it’s the area on the hull I am wondering about.

Thanks,
Mark

If you're talking about gluing the fabric back to the textured front of the nautolex, you have your work cut out for you without mechanical fasteners. I tried doing this with contact cement and it lasted almost a year before it started to curl off.

I ended up using 1"x1/8" flat stock aluminum and rivets to hold that unruly stuff down, I laughed manically while doing it and told the nautolex "curl now you sob".;)

What I'm thinking is basically layer the nautolex on top of another piece of nautolex. So I would be gluing the edge of one piece of nautolex on top of the edge of another piece. Basically covering the gap between the hull and the decking.

Re: Marks 1991 16' Starcraft Fishmaster Restoration

I finally splashed the boat this weekend! A little late but man was I happy!

I still have a few odds and ends to wrap up but it is close enough to done that it no longer consumes every spare second that I have in my life. I also have one more relatively large part of the project, I am going to paint just the upper portion or the hull. I will be able to do it while it is on the trailer but simply taking off the bunkers. I will probably do this in the near future.

I was to thank everybody on iBoats for the help and for the posts that they have made along the years that I have read and read and read so that I could learn to do such a large project.

I also want to apologize for my lack of posting through the process. I promise to give back to this community by updating this thread with the pictures that I took along the way and I will be happy to answer any questions that I can.

One last thing before the pictures. I was to give a huge shoutout and thank you to Jigngrub. When you see my pictures you will see that his boat was my model and my goal. I think I came pretty close :) Thank you buddy for all your help.

Pics will span 2 posts...
