marks on flywheel magnets

On my flywheel there are some dark marks about an inch long. Look like someone marked the magnet with a dark-brown sharpie. The marks won't wipe off.

I'm replacing 30-year-old stator and timer base. Stator has large crack in outer housing. I figure that may be what caused the black marks on the magnets....?

Will those marks on the magnets cause problems, or will it be okay with the new stator and timer base?

#2 cyl won't fire after warm-up. Already replaced power pack, coils, plug wires, and plugs.

Motor is 1980 J70elcsa.

I don't see how any marks could affect the magnets, as long as they are intact.

By no fire after warmup, are you saying it is actually losing spark on #2? If it is missing on #2, but still has spark, I suggest you check #2 carburetor and / or possibly getting water into #2 cylinder. That's bad news.

Re: marks on flywheel magnets

The spark to the #2 cyl is quitting altogether after the engine warms up. I have checked it with a spark tester, hooked from the spark plug wire to ground on the block.
I compared the other cylinders in the same fashion and they continue to show spark. I also swapped the coil wires and the problem followed the swap. So, for some reason, after warm up, spark is not being sent to #2 cylinder. I'm praying it is related to the timer base or stator. Stator appears deteriorated/cracked. All other ignition parts are new.

Anyone who has had experience with this, please chime in!

There are tests for timer base and stator, or, if you have lots of money, just start replacing parts.

BTW, CDI Electronics has good test data on line. You will need a DVA adapter for your VOM.
