Good Morning Gentleman,

I may be purchasing a boat from Maryland, I live in NY. I am also thinking about the actual registration numbers on each side of the bow.

Q: will this be difficult to Re-register to NY?
Q: who or how will it work with the Bow numbers?
Q: will nys motor vehicle explain the Bow changeover or/ will they give me the new numbers?

The seller has complete and clean paperwork (Boat title and reg, trailer title and reg)
I am bringing NYS Motor Vehicle buyer/seller tax forms.

Ayuh,.... So long as ya got a clean paper trail, 'n the Money, it should be a piece of cake to register,...

The current bow numbers will become obsolete, 'n need replacin' with the numbers NYS tells ya to use,...

It should register without a hassle. They will give you new numbers. Be sure to make copies of all your paperwork because they may take the originals. You might get a "nontransferable" registration, while the paperwork is sent to Albany for "research". "Research" means they will contact Maryland for verification.

If that is the case it may take several months to get a "transferable" one, or a new NY title in the mail. In the interim you can use the boat, just not sell it.

Thank you, good advice on making copies.

Q: if I need numbers that NY tells me to get, could I get them at a hardware store or, do boat marina's and shops carry them?

I've never purchased a boat outside of NY.

Make sure you get forms from the Maryland DMV as well as the NY-DTF-802 and have them all filled out.. NY is easy peasy when it comes to non titled boats, but the transaction is only as good as the DMV clerk.. I use a tiny hole in the wall DMV in Margaretville but that's 2ish hrs from Albany
