Re: Materials to use for transom rebuild , plywood vrs composit for
JJB- I have used plywood for many projects and restorations and have had great results. However I am moving towards compsites. Not so much to get rid of the rot problem but for wieght savings.
We restore offshore powerboats so wieght is a huge issue here.
We are also designing and building a mold for a new 28' offshore style performance hull. Planing on it being 100% composite.
I'm leaning towards Nida-core. The H8PP Honeycomb.

You need to do some cost comparison. Composite material is much more expensive than wood.
Will you benefit enough to justify the cost difference.
I will still continue to use wood for core material on some projects but on others you just can't compromise the no rot and weight saveing quality.
Check Nida-core web site, ask them to send you some samples.
