I have a 87 BassTraker TX (17') with a 45 hp Merc. I was wondering what the max hp rating for this boat is. It runs nice but I want more than "nice". Any info would be great. Also, does anyone know how to get the wife to like having a boat?

Thanxs
Gerald

Re: max hp rating

Gerald....being an 87', there should be a sticker on there someplace that would indicate the max hp. This is required on new boats by law since around 1980.

To the hard question......my missus was just plain afraid of the water. I got her out a couple times and she seemed to like it. The she got out on the water the better she liked it. Now she's on the river more'n me!!! She takes either the toon or boat, what ever strikes her fancy, launches and recovers, spends time out on the river with what ever part of the brood that wants to go. Me?????? I'm usually workin'. What I'm trying to say is, get her out on the water....often. Have fun. You may get a water monster like mine........but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Git a bimini top(cheap little one that's removable when the "guys" go out). Only go out for about three hours tops in the MORNING ONLY!!!! Females don't like being roasted like a hot dog or froze to death with cold nipples all day doing somthn' they don't care about that much. Bring the kitchen fridge, radio, knitting, book or whatever little ditty she likes to do when there is nothing else to do and don't make her do anything she doesn't want to do like fishing
Best to start with jus a short 1 hour speed boat ride looking at the sites, and let her bring her little poofy pet dog if she has one... :D
P.S. My little chihuahua "Spike" loves to go out and sit between us leaning into the 40+ MPH air blast snuffling the scent of the Everglades. Always several people bring thier dogs out bass fishing here. Two guys were in a 10' jon boat with a big ole' black lab stomping around every time a boat went by(what a sight!).... :D

If you're missing the plate, call Bass Pro & they'll probably research & get back to ya. Probably in the 75 - 90HP range.
