maybe carb???

88 5.0 can i use my 5.7 carb on my 5.0 motor? on muffs its ok and on load it will only idle in gear. if i give gas the motor bogs out intill i put it back to idle, so maybe i am getting to much air or to much gas???? all new tune-up and specs....

My guess is your flooding it, are you getting a strong gas odor from the exhaust? Might have to look into timing as well.

book says to be at 8 btdc and 29 dwell so thats what i set it to. i was testing the boat on river and my bro was adjusting the carb but cant get the carb right. do i have to open it up and adjust something inside???

accelerator pump in the carb I bet ya.. Want a good test?.Without the engine running. Take off the spark arrestor.. Look down in the carb.. Have your buddy drop the hammer.. You should see a good stream of fuel drop down the carb for just a second..

Its a 2 barrel isn't it?

yes sorry its a 2 barrel. yes when i give wot gas comes out the carb for a sec then stops with no drips.

I think my granny could rebuild that carb.. Get ya a rebuild kit..
HMMMMM well sounds like the pump is working..
