Re: McCain and Clinton

Like Dogsdad says. Global warming, which is undoubtedly occuring to some degree, is just another vehicle by which the leftist, socialist, one worlders are using to try drag us down to a level where we are no longer a pre-eminent country. They want to put us under the thumbs of the likes of a Butros Butros Ghali or Kofi Annan.

The sad part is that the American Progressives, like PW and Rolmops are falling for it hook, line and sinker.

At no other time in history has sooooo much dino fuel been burned. At no other time in history has there been such a rapid change in climate. Granted, we've only been testing for 100 years or so but you guys ever heard of core samples?? or is that all BS?

I suppose the hole in the ozone layer is fiction also - that must mean that skin cancer is a figment of our imaginations.

We're not talking 1,000,000 years, or even 100,000 years - these climate swings are occuring in our measly 100 year industrial existence.

Do you remember the three days after 9/11, all air traffic was halted (barr military), southern calif posted a 3 degree temp increase, it lowered again after normal air traffic resumed. There is sat photos of the jet streams (or lack off) for that period. Google it.

You guys are kidding yourselves, our greatgrand children have a damn mess on their hands and if you think this is only YOUR problem, think again, this sh#t doesn't stop at borders.

Aldo, when one large volcano erupts, it spits out multiples of the volumes of green house gases and ozone destroying chemicals that have been produce by mankind in all of history. We may have global warming but it isn't being caused by man, specifically the USA and it is not going to be stopped by driving western civilization back to the stoneage!!!

Yeah! What a bunch of BS this global warming thing!
Everybody knows the environment is cleaner now than it was 100 years ago. There's less garbage, cleaner water and air. There's more fish in the sea and the sky is bluer.
Those people that think we demonstrate a negative impact on the Earth are plain crazy. :D
It'll just rain more.
And can you beleive all that crap about acid rain? It's a conspiracy, junk science and we're just to smart to buying into all that stuff!

I don't doubt for one minute that this cycle is part of nature but we are definately contributing in a very substantial way. That MUST upset the balance, how can it not?

I'm no tree hugger, I enjoy all the benefits of an industrial society but that doesn't mean I should turn a blind eye to what's going on.
I don't know the answer - doesn't mean there isn't a problem.

BTW, we (Aus) didn't sign the Kioto(sp) agreement either.

I also don't think that this debate is soley the domain of America, any nation that is industrialised plays a role in this mess.

Why don't we start right there. How do you KNOW this to be a fact? I would guess that the fact that dinosaurs have been found preserved in ICE with green vegetation still in their mouths suggests catastrophic climate change in an instant. I wonder who was responsible for that?

Destroying capitalism isn't going to make the earth behave the way we might like it to behave. Let's get rational.

-dd-

Re: McCain and Clinton

If Global Warming is soooo important, how come during the last 100 years are their no polluted lakes, rivers or streams, why aren't we seeing massive fish die offs from pollutants, why are there so many whales, carrier pigeons, buffalo, and on and on. Right wing left wing whatever, humans have made a huge impact on earth and although some of us are too dumb to understand or accept this, it is happening and we need to be aware and limit pollution as much as we can!!!!!

So....does all this hot gas, visionariousness, quoting, speculative, scientific (or un-scientific), historic, "sworn by", "mark-my-words", procratination type info mean that I gotta' git my winter Moon Boots out or just leave them in the closet? :)

Think I'll just open another Longneck and watch the thermometer.

Yikes! Ken, I meant to put a smiley behind my comment, sure makes a difference, huh? Sorry if I sounded like a f***** d***h***. :D Or maybe Cap'n Jack made me forget it. Anywho, sorry to be difficult. Link, I can't break it down like JB can, I'll bite my tongue and avoid the hard work from now on! :D

Re: McCain and Clinton

DJ, I am with you on this one. Ice ages occur at a rate of about 1 every 100,000 years. Scientific proof you ask. Flora and Fauna samples or lack of these samples, found in the layers of the Earth. Based on what scientist find or do not find , they can get a fairly accurate idea of the temp at that time and how long it lasted. For example, in northern US during the winter, not much flora. Therefore, little found(pollen samples) in the layering of the Earth for a very short period of time (months). Seasons are normal you say. Well, not 10,000 yrs worth of winter as shown in the lack of flora samples. The last ice age, if I remember correcly, took place nearly 100,000 years ago, and they occur about every 100,000 years. Its a normal cycle and was taking place long before the industrial revolution.

Ozone depletion? Scientist only know what it looks like now. What they do not know is what was going on up there during these cyclical events from the past, as determined by rock layers. For all they know, what is going on now is a completely normal part of the cycle. I hear way more politicians having a fit over global warming and its causes as opposed to scientists. I wonder why.

Re: McCain and Clinton

I agree that global warming could be part of a natural cycle. But shouldn't we even consider that we might be contributing? If nothing else, we are polluting the atmosphere and with China becoming more industialized it is only going to get worse. Shouldn't we be looking into alternative power sources? If we had done nothing in the past about pollution we would probably be walking around with respirators on right now. I cannot understand it when people write off theories they do not agree with as "junk science".

Re: McCain and Clinton

You guys are going to drive me nuts. Nature takes care of itself, blizzards, hurricanes, droughts and tornados are what the planet uses to balance the climate and atmosphere. There is no conceivable way that humans can alter the planet's weather system, other than detonating every nuclear weapon that we have. Global warming is a temporary phenomenon and it might get warmer or cooler, I'll let you know which way it's going in 20 years. I'm washing my swimming trunks, just in case! :D

Cranky,

I absolutely agree that with much that we do, we are not improving our air quality. From an air quality stand point, we would be much better off with clean air. I think OPEC is going to force US citizens to push that issue.

El Nino affects our weather here greatly as to temps and precipitation on a much quicker scale than the ice ages. Although there may be people who believe differently, to my knowledge, it is naturally occuring and can no way be traced to human activity. Earth is an amazing planet. She has been taking pretty good care of herself for 4.6 billion years, and I am guessing she will not let us screw her up. Nature has a way of taking care of things. For example; when an area becomes over crowded, too dirty or unsanitary, nature fixes it. Ebola in poor, over-populated areas of Africa, the virus / bacteria (can't remember what it was called)that took place recently in China. The plague in Europe and on and on. There is a carrying capacity to all places on Earth, and when they are exceeded, nature tends to take care of the problem.

Re: McCain and Clinton

Just to finish a thought: we humans will find a way to destroy ourselves through war,or other similar means long before we can destroy nature to the point we can no longer exist.

To quote Einstein, "I know not with which weapons World War III will be fought, but I know World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." I hope we are intelligent enough as a race to not let this happen.
