Re: Media Coverage

I found a way to watch BBC.

I don't like everything they have to say, but at least they are reporting facts, not interviewing the sad families, and not collecting opinions from every has-been strategist (HA!) on the planet.

Now that Mercey is back, I hope you don't delete it JB, but do what you have to do. We all need to see this mentality. I see he has his own topic now.

JB, might not delete mercy's post but I will. There is no need here for the spewing of lies and inflamatory statements.

Re: Media Coverage

JB, "Watch BBC" sorry..Well, how you doing that? I'd like to get another take on the news in the eavenings too.<EDIT>

But did you guys hear on whatever news source you had today, (I have the trusty AM radio on for bitz-n-pieces news) about Aljezera News service? They had passed-on message from the sandman telling his people to start attacking now..then about 3 hours later, it got knocked-off the air....LOL I was rolling!! I could just hear them mentally ,some guy calls in to the cable company and gets a recording, "We're sorry. 'Sadamn's Soldiers' will not be seen tonight due to an American JDAM. We regret any inconveniance this may have caused. Goodbye"... ROF!! :D

Hi, 12Footer.

We have 2 PBS channels in the DFW area. One of them carries BBC news and war coverage.

Finally found something on PBS other than eternal "Pledge Drives" and children's programming.

Just curious, How many rolls of duct tape will it take to rebuild Iraq?

Re: Media Coverage

Just read through the entire post. On thing I do agree with JB about is the bloodsuckers that think "news" is interviewing the families of those captured or worse and asking stupid questions like "How do you feel" or "Give us your thoughts" or "Tell us about your last communication with your Son". Just listening to a converstation on the tube between some jounalist and the parents of the lady that is supposed to be a POW. Jesus!!!! It just pi**es me off. How the hell are the families supposed to feel? I used to watch the "Today" show when I could. No more. Seems every day they interview another set of parents with sons or daughter that they don't know are dead or alive. This freakin' war is just gettin to be a media circus.

OutboardJim

To each his own I guess.

Some family members of the POWs, were happy to see them on TV. They said at least they knew they were alive.

I know I would.

Marty

Re: Media Coverage

I see and understand your point marty, but my point is, these families knew before the media did the fate of their sons or daughter. It's SOP with the military. No news about a soldiers fate until the families or next of kin has been notified. Then the media tries to make it news and "journalism" by interviewing the families. I call it "Vulturism". Dammit. Getting off on a rant agin. Anybody know a good joke? This day has just SUCKED for me.

Re: Media Coverage

Well if it were me on T.V., (as a prisoner of war), I wouldn't like my mom to see me on the news.... She would already know, why I went there, why I joined, why her husband joined, "Back in '41" (my Dad), and if we didn't come home alive, then we served our country for a good reason. We shouldn't show these peoples families on t.v. Don't even want to turn the t.v. on half the time because, this stuff is total crap. George W. shut down the U.S. Media.

Re: Media Coverage

Have not watched a bit of the war on TV.. Actually, I have'nt turned the TV on in a couple days... Just get little tid bits on the radio, here & there, and thats ENOUGH..

These sorry a$$ excuses for "journalists" ought to be put on a spit and bar-b-q'ed for some of the crap they pull... Begging to interview some poor Mom who's kid just got shot up or captured... Has the media no SHAME??? Not to mention INCORRECT information..

It's DISGUSTING, and I will not participate..

P.S. It's sad that I get my "news" from you guys on this forum.. :p

Re: Media Coverage

Just to add something here.

The dumbest question to date that I have heard is,
"What is your greatest fear?"

Duhhhh!!!!!

"Let's see, mmmmmmmm, he/she/ might take up smoking."

Give me a break.

It is the same ol thing.

The media presents what the public wants, although it might not be with the majority on this forum.

Re: Media Coverage

I only really watch FOX News Network , thanks Rupert, and sometimes BBC and some international world news station. The big national networks are a joke.

Get them all on my little Directv dish for $30 a month. The same dish gets me some pretty fast 2-way internet service. Yup, thats right, I broadcast my signal up to the satellite.

Re: Media Coverage

Evening all,
Local time here in Australia is 2115. I have been watching the rehash of the news from various reporters in Iraq. Most of the stuff seems to be second or third hand info backed up by old (2 or 3 days) video footage. Things haven't changed since the Vietnam war. I served two tours with Australian Army infantry battalions in 66/67 & again in 68/69. Reporters would fly into a LZ on a resupply chopper, race around madly taking photos of not much (because not much was happening) then jump back on the chopper when it came back in to collect people going on R&R or backload empty water jerrycans. If they went to a firebase they would take endless pics of 105 arty firing H&I or maybe a contact fire mission if they were really lucky. Point I am trying to make is this. We offered on several occasions to take these guys out on patrol in the scrub. Just short ones. Daytime standing patrol 500 meters in front of the position or a platoon ambush on one of the fire trails. Never any takers. Plenty of excuses though. We even offered to organise a ride out in a small Bell 47 the next day. But were these same reporters quick to turn up & be a pain in the arse after a big contact when the smoke had cleared & the bodies had been counted. Always had to give a balanced report. Dead NVA wall to wall but no way would it be reported that we stuck it right to them!
The press covering Iraq do not seem to understand that war is about destroying your enemy. This means that killing them is the normal thing - not the abnormal! Your troops will suffer casualties but this also happens in war. The reporters seem to be fixated with friendly fire or accident type deaths. The best way to reduce our own losses is to get in there & whip the Iraqi army, and this seems to be the plan.
Lets have no more crocodile tears from the press about dead Iraqis. If civilian deaths occur then it is unfortunate but they are not being targeted. If they were, Baghdad would have been a parking lot on Day 2 & it would be all over.
Thats what I think - take it or leave it.
Regards,
Peter.

agree with Roscoe, Fox news has best coverage
and even de-nounced the competition for their
negative positions.

Re: Media Coverage

Good Morning Peterbo...it's 0840hrs along the muddy banks of the mighty Ohio river and I'm just getting my head together for another fun day at the shop.

I think your post has much truth in it. Many of us on the forum have spent time "In Country" and understand what war is all about. Many of us have seen it first hand. It ain't pretty and people get killed wether by enemy fire or accidents which happen in conjested areas of operations. It's a given in any war, people get killed. We just hate what the media is doing with it. Just watch another interview this morning with the parents of the black lady that was captured and interviewed on Iraqi TV. Stone Phillips was the interviewer. Same old questions. Was she afraid to go? What do you think she's doing or thinking? How did she look on TV. Bulls**t questions. How the hell would you look if you were captured and scared s**tless. It's good to know how our troops are doing, but don't make a circus out of it. Better get of this rant and get some work done. Keep things cool down under.
