As of October 1 2010 all medium duty trucks in the province of British Columbia built after 1985 will have to have a catalytic style muffler.
At this time we are running mid 90's trucks (ford, int, GM) that will require these.
The engines we have are the dt 466, brazilian 7.8, 3208 cat.

Now for the quote,"$1700.00 each and 10 weeks to get them in"

Does anyone have a better price and availability????

Thanks
Rob

Are you seriously saying that your government is FORCING you to RETROFIT emissions devices on vehicles that are already registered, and had met the emission requirements when they were originally manufactured?

Dude, I feel for you. That isn't right. I hope someone in your elected government has the cojones to fight for a repeal.

TW, I'm pretty sure that this is a CA law also. CARB was going to require the retro fit of diesel exhaust filters on trucks and buses this year but due to the economy they are delaying implementation until 2011.

I would start writing our congressmen right now, then. That is Unconstitutional.

the new law in california has put alot of owner operators out of business. and if the tree huggers had their way about it then the law would state that if you enter california then you would have to have it eventhough you are registered in another state.

Just because you drive in from another state doesn't mean you will put less soot in the air, everyone should be a "tree hugger" when it comes to our environment. I like boating on a clean lake, breathing clean air. Pay the money and make it right.

Sorry Spoonman, you are 100% WRONG in this case. Those vehicles were manufactured and maintained according to FEDERAL (and California) law, at the time of their production. To change the rule AFTER THE FACT and make retrofitting for current emissions is not legal.

How would you like it if your state decided that your boat was now illegal to operate because it doesn't have a catalytic converter? A converter that it was not legally required to have when it was made? And now you have to spend $3000+ dollars to use your boat? I'll bet your attitude would change then.
Better yet, how about they assess you a "carbon tax" for all the CO2 that your vehicles' catalytic converters have been putting out since 1975, since that is a greenhouse gas? Bet your attitude would change then.

These laws are Unconstitutional (in the U.S., not sure what Canada can do about them) and just plain wrong.

Good luck RBH, you are getting treated unfairly by your government.

I'm not trying to be right or wrong, or legal or illegal, the point I was making is the that this world will only last (be better for future generations) so long with the abuse we dish out, so we all need to do what we can to be the best stewards we can be. As far as engine requirements and carbon taxes they are what they are and we will have to comply.

Ayuh,... While I agree with that statement,....
But,...
Our own Federal Government is doin' the Same Exact thing...
We have to up-date to tier III requirements to go onto the Army base by next year....
Regardless the date of manufacture....

That's what ya get when the liberal progressives are given any Power....
