Re: merc 110 9.8 prop potential 2 blade vs. 3 blade
Vern, Generally speaking the number of blades doesnt determine speed. To keep it simple the pitch of the prop determines speed. Dont know reccomendations for your motor. But youll need to know what prop you have to start with. There may be numbers on prop like 8X8 or 10X10 I believe thats diameterX pitch. Generally speaking, lower pitch(lower number)gives more power but less top speed. More pitch (higher number) Gives higher top speed less power.Kind of like low gear compared to high gear on a car. With your little boat and motor weight distribution is important
Too much in the stern it will be slow to plane or not plane at all.Too much in the bow and it will tend to plow and be difficult to control.
Dont carry any more weight than you need for a
safe trip. Believe it or not you may get better load performance with a 14 than your twelve
because the 14 can get up on the water easier with a load. Keep in mind the 14 cant be all junked up steering and floors and a lot of uneccesary weight. Hope this is some help.
Spike
