merc 1150 1976 throttle/timing pickup settings....

hello<br /><br />1976 merc 115hp inline 6 with distributor.<br />we replaced the throttle and shift cables last week, and all hasnt been the same since.<br /><br />at first the butterflies wouldnt open more than 1/4 way, so i adjusted the cable so it opened more, but then the idle was unbelievebly high.<br /><br />i scoured my seloc manual to no avail. does anybody have a "proper" way to adjust all this jazz so that it all accelerates nice and good, like it should, i.e, when should throttle plates open and at what point..?<br /><br />thanks

NOTE: my control box is unbaleiveably loose and sloppy now, si im a thinkin' sumthin in there may have been messed up .... not pushing and pullin gthe cable like it should
