Just bought this boat with 1150 Merc serial number3504526,I think it's a 1975. the guy I bought it from said he replaced the timing belt and thought he got it a tooth off. I think I agree, after replacing water pump and fresh fuel I took it out for maiden voyage,It's starts in fast idle pos., but wont idle,a quarter throttle is all I could get out of it,for yucks we banked it and moved the plug wires up one hole[advanced], I touched the key and it fired right up[sounded good]. So my question is whats the easy way to bump it up a notch, pull dist? or flywheel? :(

there is a screw in the center of the cover plate on your dist pulley. Remove this screw and lift the plate off. Then you can lift the belt off the pulley and set it correctly

mudflap, put your no.1 piston at top-dead-center. Then look at the marks on the flywheel and the distributor pulley(arrow) and make sure they are aligned.... Take distributor pulley cover off with 5/16 wrench and adjust if timing is off.
