Merc 140 1980 Australian serial numbers help?

Hey all, another newbie with a question

Can anyone tell me about an Australian online resource to check serial numbers on Australian built Mercury straight six, 140 Hp tower of power engines please? 8050247 is the number and I'm guessing it's a 1980 by the timing correction sticker on the engine housing.

Any help will be really appreciated.

Hi Travella and :welcome: to iBoats. I tried looking up that serial number on a US merc site but no luck. Here is a link to mercs site in Australia:

look them up under contact us or dealer locater and tell them you want the Australian equivalent to this site:

It will give you the desription of your motor once you plug in the US serial number
