I hit a mud flat today going about 25mph-which knocked the engine up (like the old kickup) out of the water-I shut it down within 1 second or so. The bottom was compacted clay and it looked like the bullet hit first then the skeg (bullet had a wad of clay on it and skeg had skid mark on both sides. Engine ran fine after. So my question is what do I need to take a look at on the engine/boat. As always I appreciate any feedback.

They have a built in check valve for hitting bottom. Make sure engine runs normally and trim and tilt operates normally.

maybe a dumb question but what does the check valve do? The engine ran fine the rest of the day and the trim/tilt worked fine as well--it did freak me out a bit when I went to trim the engine and it took a bit before it moved--then I figured out what it was--the rams had to connect with the motor

No damage, the trim system did exactly what it was designed to do to prevent major damage to the gearcase and transom.

You did inspect the transom for cracking, right?

Inspect the transom bracket as well. You likely did no damage, but check it out...

Yep--did a good once over best I could--but will do a full on look this evening. Thanks for the feedback.
