Hi, my 1974 merc 110 runs perfect. Good idle, good acceleration, good top end. The problem is it leaves an oil/gas slick in the water when I am sitting in one spot. Upon looking at the engine it appears it is leaking where the quick disconnect from the tank connects to the fixed connector on the engine. The outside of the engine and lower unit is covered with fuel and oil from this. It will start cold with full choke and 5 pulls. When it is warm, maybe sat for 5 minutes, I still need to choke it to start. I assume this is because the leak is causing the fuel line to lose it's prime. On the tank end there is no quick disconnect, the hose goes directly to a fitting. When looking at the parts manual for this engine, I notice the fixed fitting on the engine has a check valve in it. My question is, can I just skip this and buy a less expensive quick disconnect to place at the engine side? Do these replacement connections have a check valve? Can I go direct to the fuel pump and put a new line in with a quick disconnect at the tank? Again the question of the check valve comes into play. Any thoughts?
