The pulley would have fit I think, but the difference was slight enough that I doubt it would have made much difference. But again, untill the new one comes in, is there any risk of damaging anything by running the boat without the power steering and alternator hooked up?

I was going to try and actually take it out but that all depends on if all my other problems are solved. I think what Ill do is just unhook the positive lead on the alternator to take the load off of it, but will let me keep my power steering. Ill let you know how it goes!

Re: Merc 3.0 cylinders smoking from the plug!

Started right up, idled good, shifted smooth, idled great in gear. Now when I rev it up im getting really bad backfiring throught the flame arrestor. I hear that the two biggest causes for backfiring are timing and bad valves. I just did the timing and I have good compression on all cylinders so what could it be? The only thing I can think of is perhaps a sticking intake valve? But why would I have backfiring now when all I have done since last time I had it out is set the timing to factory spec? Last time I had it out was two days ago and it didnt backfire but it had idling problems. Timing fixed idling problems but now im getting backfiring. Any ideas?
