My 3.0 starts right up but recently started stalling in reverse and now forward. Once she is warmed p it isn't a problem for the rest of the day. Any suggestions? thanks

Re: Merc 3.0 stalling when put in gear when cold

I think the moderators should add this question to the FAQ section (This and run-on), there are lots of threads on this issue. (Although there could be other things going on with your engine)

Mine does the same thing, I'm about to try some of the stuff I learned in the other threads about this.

Good luck!

If it were me the first thing i would do is check the fuel filters. The second thing that comes to mind is check the lower shift cable to make sure that the shift interupt switch is staying is not being tripped. The third is tuning the motor.

How long do you guys allow your engine to warm up before pulling away from dock?

I was going to say look at the thread called "Slight hesitation ! ? 3.0ltr merc " ( Don't know if there is a way to point to it)

And yes, you need to give it some time to warm up. Just ssaying, this is a comon issue, so there are other theads on the topic.

I wait altleast 1 minute. (may be too short - but try holding of a herd of kid-lets wanting to go tubing!)

Its a 1985 3.0
Warm up time is 2-3 minutes
All the fuel filters (carb, fuel pump and water separtor) are new as is a tuneup.
I installed electronic Ingition last year.
I'll check the idle speed and shift cable
