Merc 3.0l alternator belt replacement

My boats at the lake and I cannot look at it. How does one get the alternator belt off. Mine was slipping this weekend and I didn't have time to look at it before I left, but I seem to remember that the motor mounts were in the way of getting them off. If so, how do I get the belt off?<br /><br />Also, does nayone know where or what size belt to get?? i assume I can just get a standard belt from Napa if I have the size. I can't seem to find the size.<br /><br />Any help would be great..

There is a mounting bracket directly underneath your alternator. Two bolts hold it in. Remove the bracket, and you can get your belt in.<br /><br />Best bet for parts is to get the part number directly from mercruiser. Find your engine's serial number, then go to this website. http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com/PartsExpress/HomePage/homePage.asp

Is the belt damaged? If not - why not try tightening it first? - loosen the alt tension bolt pull tight and retighten the bolt<br /><br />To replace I think you will need to remove the belt for the power steering unit, as this is in front of the alt belt. Take the belt to napa and have them match it up. Should be that easy

I will tighten it first but since I am going to do it at the lake, I wanted to be prepared with parts as it will need to be replaced anyway probably this fall.
