Greetings ,

Okay I finally did it . I was going to buy new bottom line inflatable but decided for some unknown reason to buy a used Zodiac from 1988 and it came with a used 35 hp 2 stroke merc outboard.
Now I just finished wrestling the this out board into my shed (we can talk about my sanity at a later date :) ) Yesterday I read in this forum how to identify model and so I took my flashlight and began looking for small metal tag and no joy, I don't have one anywhere, curses foiled again. So there must be another method to identify this heavy monster. what is it?
Of course I am going to buy a repair manual as soon possible and read this forum until I go blind but sooner or later will I have to know my exact model of outboard? THis would come in handy when I'm being questioned by the 17 year old kid at the parts store who will treat me with utter contempt if I tell him I don't know what I own.
So is my quest solvable or will my outboard sit in my shed for another twenty years until after I've kicked the bucket and my kids are fighting over my belongings. thank you for any help with this dilemma.

Nothing at all on the clamp bracket? Front, right side? Or a small plug stamped into the block?

If none were apparent, you'll have to post some pics (particulary the cowling). Some of the gurus here can tell the year range by the slight variations in shape/bands color/text on the cowling.

BTW, cool name. Hope you had a bit less things hanging from your chin...
