I'm hoping you all can help, I'm almost at the end of the line with this motor but hate to take it to someone at this stage... Here goes...
35hp Merc, serial number 0A966391, non-tiller. Hasn't run in 8+ years and don't know the condition the last time it did run.
I've gone through and replaced the impeller and all seals (spits nicely), changed the lower gear oil, cleaned every electrical terminal, replaced the starter but didn't need to, compression is 135 in both cylinders, went through carb twice (found cracked float), new fuel filter, spark is awesome.... all good signs of a motor that should roar back to life..
Motor is in a tank, new fuel and hose including bulb... Squeeze the bulb till its firm and fuel is flowing out of the carb throat.. Closer inspection shows it to be coming from the main nozzle tube in the throat of the carb and small bubbles coming from a small port on the wall of the throat on the float side... fuel is also coming out of the float vent...
What did I miss? It all seems to be carb related at this point, but I've been through the carb, new needle and seat, float, complete rebuild... Ah, there is one thing that I couldn't get out, the inlet seat gasket (small brass colored washer) that goes into the cover prior to the needle seat... Culprit?
Little more past history, the reason I bought the new starter was because I thought it was toast, motor turned over fine with the plugs out but wouldn't with them in... Once the new starter didn't resolve it, I decided to pull the power head to try to locate what was not allowing the pressure out.. I found nothing out of the ordinary, cylinders looked good, rings were free, no blockage in the exhaust, reed valves, etc... Put it back together and she spins great with the plugs in.. I never removed the flywheel or any of the throttle/advance levers... I did have the fuel pump off and replaced the seal and diaphragm at that time..
One other note, I'm starting by using jumper cables to the starter ground and the starter side of the relay as I also need to dive into the controls once the motor runs...
Again, I'm hoping that I simply missed something or installed something wrong as I simply can't locate what is preventing her to run... Much appreciation in advance..
