Hey guys I have been working on a 1983 4.5 merc with this serial number 6329287. I tore the little engine down and now it is running like champ. But I now have one problem... I can not get the choke mechanism to work and I have no idea how it hooks up to the carb and how the switch goes into the cowl. My manuals say NOTHING about it so I need some help. Can any one please take a pictures of there merc 4.5 (this one has the side mounted carb bowl) showing how the choke hooks up? Or supply me with diagrams? I can not for the life of me figure this one out.
Here are the parts I have
-the plastic screen/choke thing (the piece that gets bolted to the carb)
-The little knob that goes on the outside of the cowl
-the arm that slides down the "plastic screen choke thing" and gets connected to the knob
-a flat metal spring that has a hole drilled into it at one end and a place for a bolt to slide into at the other.
-I regular spring about 3/8 inch in diameter
-another spring that is flat.
Thanks!
