Merc 40 BF tilt question.

I previously ask for advice on fixing our non-functional tilt. Tried most of the things suggested with no good luck. Now it is time to take the pontoon out of the water and I need to get the motor tilted up for transportation. I know about loosening the white nylon (?) screw to allow manual tilt. However, we have tried everything too loosen the screw and it will not budge. Either with a screwdriver or thin walled socket. What options do I have? Thought about drilling a hole in the screw to release the pressure even though I may damage the pump (which I believe is toast anyway). Any suggestion please?

Unless there is a Hydrolic line to losen to relieve the pressure I think that might be your only option. I suppose it,s a one piston unit? That makes it next to impossible to get the lower pin out of the bracket.

remove the bottom bolt that goes through both transom clamps and the base of the trim system. the trim system will dangle loose. You will need to block into place for transport. Remove upper pin and wiring and trim system removes from boat. If you avoid physical damages to housings then you can mail it off for rebuild (about $200) or do it yourself in garage over winter.
