Here's a wiring diagram for your engine. Based on a few things you've written the colours may not be the same.

First for the engine itself. Then the instrument panel. I've taken the drawings for your engine and instrument panel and modified them to match what you need to end up with.... And yes, quite right, your wiring has no fuse. Later models do (and it wouldn't be a bad thing to add) have a 20A fuse in the red wire between the connector and the ignition keyswitch.

HTH,

Chris.
(black ground wire not shown on instrument panel for clarity. Each gauge has a black wire running to it, jumped from the one that does run to the oil pressure gauge in the drawing.)470 wiring, early.jpg Instrument, Ammeter.jpg

Thanks Chris, I really appreciate this.

I am going to add a 20 amp inline fuse to the battery wire to the ignition.

looking at schematic is it the yellow wire #7, coming off the B post on ignition. (If the 2 center studs on this are "B") Or do I need to add this wire myself and go directly to the battery switch?

Disregard the last post. Except the part where I appreciate this.

Starting to think some one changed things on this boat. I did get it to run last year, ran like a champ even with the stator system. I am not sure if it was charging though.

I jumped it at the starter with a screwdriver to start it. The ignition switch never worked so I replaced it figuring that was the problem. Hooked it up like it was before and it still didn't work.

My colors are different which I wouldn't have a problem with, but My wiring seems to be different, don't seem to have as many wires to ignition. I want to first get my ignition switch figured out compared to this one.

Schematic has an I=ignition, B= battery, A= accessory?

On Drawing What is the post the yellow wire comes from?

My ignition switch has Solenoid, Battery, Ignition tabs.

Here is what I now have off my ignition switch.

1- Ignition Tab-

wires to gauges, and a small tan wire that goes back to the circuit breaker. So looks like this correlates to the red wire off of the Ignition tab on drawing. So I am probably ok here?

2- Solenoid tab- I have a small wire with soft insulation that goes to my throttle arm box. Then comes back out and ends up being a larger white wire that goes to rear. I had this white wire labeled starter from the last time I worked on it. I have no idea how I came up with this so may be wrong.

3- Battery tab-I have nothing. As you told me it only needs one power wire that is on as soon as you turn battery switch on. So can I just run a new wire (with fuse) directly from the battery switch/battery to this tab?

Heck ya, finally got it to turn over from ignition switch. Battery was dead so i haven't for the start yet. I rewired all accessories (new switch panel) and cleaned up or replaced all connection points on engine and greased with dielectric.

To clarify, on the wire to B terminal on ignition switch. All it needs is a 20 amp inline fuse?

I will prob need to start a new post to continue with other electrical/engine questions.ill post some here to start.

Are the coils on these engines the same as any older stock small block Chevy type?

do they make a magneto type points replacement for these engines?

Thanks for the help guys, the diagram really helped chris.
