You can bypass the switch to see if it's the problem. On my old Chris Craft, I've done it at the switch itself (behind the panel at the control lever)and at the circuit board. First, though, check the ground at the distributor, and try cleaning and tightening or changing out the coil to distributor wire. The coil wire could just be loose at either the distributor or the coil.

Dont know what year but hope this will help.<br />First with the key on your saying you dont have 12volts at the + terminal of the coil? Disconnect one of the wires at the shift interrupter switch and see if she does now. Also the wire that runs from the choke to the + side of the coil is a resistance wire (normally purple color)It could have burned out? Disconnect this wire and run a jumper wire to the + side of the battery and see if she starts. Also, Their is another gray wire on the - side of the coil that goes to the Tach. A bad tach can cause a no start condition. Disconnect and try.
