I own a Merc 500, 50HP, 2 stroke, motor. Serial number A131168 (1985). The motor is on a 1970, 13 Boston Whaler. Currently there are no gauges hooked up. There is a round, plug on the controls that Im told supports some gauges and a tachometer. The plug is, female and is keyed, has 3 pins (male) in it, and has a receiver (female) for a 4th pin.
1. What gauges will this plug support?
2. Assuming I purchase the Merc cable. Does the Merc cable come with directions? Like a key for the color coded wires.
3. Are the directions that come with Teleflex gauges any better or worse than the directions that come with Merc gauges?
4. Connection wise, is everything I need either in the cable from the control or the battery?
Just to spell it out, what I looking for is: if I by all Merc (pay more) does this become moron proof.
Thanks much,
Tom
