I’ve got a 1985 Merc 500 50hp, 2 stroke that I’m putting gauges in. I’ve downloaded all of the directions from Teleflex. It sounds like water pressure & water temp both want to come out of the same plug on the engine. Is it possible to get water pressure and a true water temp?

Tee your water pressure with the tell tale fitting at the block.
Teleflex gauges should come with the kit included.

We usally drill and tap the top of the block for temp, ut would not recommend it to the average person. the T works but the temp read low, must you have both?

When you say at the block, do you mean where the water comes out of the engine? There’s a plug on top of the engine that has hosing attached to it. The hosing runs down to the pisser. Do you mean between the engine and the pisser?

Thanks much,

Yes. that is where to tee for PRESSURE gauge. Teleflex includes the kit to do it.

Re: Merc 500 50hp guages

Thanks d:) – Time to go shopping. I’m putting in Tech, Volts, Water pressure, and Water temp. I’m doing water pressure & water temp because more is better. It’s an obsession. The Merc gauges are more than double the cost of Teleflex Sportsman gauges. The boat is a 1970 13’ Boston Whaler. The motor is a 1985, Merc 500, 50hp. Any reason to go with the Merc gauges? Is there a reason to go with higher end Teleflex gauges on a boat like this?

Thanks much,

Tom
