OK- trying to help a fellow Starcrafter out. Hear's the deal, We pulled the engine for a rebuild, replaced all the bellows, lower shift cable, u-joints, etc etc. Gimbal bearing was replaced last year, it looked great, so he opt'd to reuse it. Now hear we are, simple allignment. (yeah right). I just redid my starcraft with a merc 165- no alignment probs. He reused the fiber washers, spacers, self locking nuts etc on the flywheel housing rear mounts. They are taken off, and re applied in the same order as they came off. In fact, they are set up the same as mine- top to bottom- just like in the pic from the down load provided from this forum. Now here is what he doesent have- according to the manual, and based on his engine serial # 3514426, he should also have a special spiral looking spacer that is supposed to be cut to a specified thickness. As I am looking into the gimbal housing from the rear(outdrive removed) I notice that the engine sits lower approx 1/4" or so. I tried to adjust the front of the engine by lowering it to match up the rear. Wont work, the alignment tool binds. So I am pressuming, that we will have to remove the rear engine bolts, and shim the rear of the engine up approx 1/4" with spacers??? Then fine tune the adjustment from the front of the engine. I may be looking at this all wrong, and I might be missing something. We would appreciate any advice from anyone who has been down this road before. FYI- we have adjusted the front with no success, so I am quite sure the problem is the rear mount height. Thanks again-

Ayuh,...You Found the Problem...
The Fix is either a set of those spiral washers, or a new rear mount replacement Kit....

Ayuh,... Use dougrussel or bam, with Mercruiser parts look-ups in 'em...
Search by motor/ drive,+ serial #s...

That's what I do...

Thanks for your time. We were gonna just replace the double spiral, but after looking at the original 35 yr old fiber washers, probably a good idea to replace everything at this point.
