I have a 1982 50hp. merc 2 stroke. The starter gear rides up and hits the bottom of the flywheel at a fairly slow speed when I speed up it stops. Any suggestions ?
If the starter is not turning when this happens, then the bendix on the starter needs to be serviced/ rebuild. The shaft needs to be cleaned an lubed and the return spring checked for enough pressure to return the bendix gear to the bottom of the spiral on the shaft. If the starter is turning then the solenoid needs to be looked into along with the starter motor its self. JMO
