Merc Trim/Tilt

There are 2 sets of wires that go from my tilt pump to some sort of solenoid looking "devices" on either side of my outboard. Are these limit switches or ???
I've been rewiring my bass boat and I'm unclear as to what these wires do. One set plugs into a harnes on the side of the pump and the other attaches to the top at 2 screw terminals. The thing is, as best I can tell one of the wires from the top pair screws into a plastic terminal off of the other wire. So it goes nowhere and is not attached to any other wires or ground. The tilt seems to be working correctly so I'm curious.
Now having said all that...while I took fairly copious notes and several photos prior to tearing into my project...it is certainly possible that I am missing a wire along the way. I do have one rogue brown/white that goes from my stern to my control box area that I can't determine it's function. So hopefully someone has some thoughts.

Also where does the wire for the warning alarm go to. I see it at the alarm, but I cannot trace it anywhere.

It's been lots of fun and I've got it all put back together, thanks to some great info I got from folks on this site. So far I've got all my accessories working. I hope to fire up the engine tomorrow and check out my new gauges.

The selenoids are probably the up and the down selenoids. As for the wires, could they be for a tilt switch on the motor it's self? I had a 150xr4 that had a switch on the motor to tilt it from the rear. Can't help you on that. Maybe Laddies is on and can help..................Jerry

Jerry,

If I understand correctly, the wires lead to either side of the outdrive, where the hinge pins are. One is the trim limit switch, the other is the trim sender (they look identical on the outside). I can't remember which is which.

The trim limit switch keeps you from trimming too far up while underway (the Trailer switch essentially bypasses this limit switch, allowing you to tilt all the way up for trailering).

The sender wires should eventually connect somewhere on the main harness. It controls the gauge on the dash that tells you the position of the drive.

I hope that helps.

I've got an '07 90hp 4stroke and the wiring codes indicate that the brn/wht goes from the tilt switch on the engine to the tilt gauge on the dash. Grn is the "down" wire to the tilt motor and blu is "up". Don't know about the alarm.
