I'm ready to dump this motor in the ocean.....The motor started overheating above 3000 rpm so I pulled it and put a new pump on took it out for a ride same thing ended up changing stats and poppit took it out again same thing.I hooked up a flush attacment to the port next to the pee hole and I have weak stream comming out then I noticed water coming out of the hole where the shift shaft enters the mid section so it seems that there was a leak in the mid section {copper pipe}pulled the l/u again and silconed the connections between water pump/guide and pipe.I'm still having the same problem the water is filling up the mid section. The motor is a 94 225 carbed.

You both gummed up, ripped up, or otherwise messed up one of the seals for the tube between the pump and the power head.

hope it helps

Hydra, The water tube fits into a rubber gromet seal in the exhaust extension. Over the years, the salt in the water I ran mine in, crushed the copper water tube down to 1/4 of its original size. You may have a similar issue, or the pipe may have simply pulled out of the seal.

Have you tried to run water up through the main water tube when you have the L/U off? You might be able to tell if there's obvious restriction in the main tube or the engine circulation.
