I just bought a used Nitro 185 sport fish and ski. have been doing some maintenance on this motor. It is running fantastic now, But i have a question about the torque/trim tab anode. The engine does not have one. Its just a flat plate. The boat does lean hard to port until I hit plane. Then it seems to level out pretty good. I don't have any issues turning the boat, but I think that might be because I have hydraulic steering. Will adding a Anode with the fin/trim tab help with the leaning to the left?

Thanks,
Seth

Welcome aboard to iboats.

Often a boat with hydraulic steering uses a flat anode like you described. The fin type anode is to counteract the torque-steer caused by the spinning prop, which hydraulic steering does naturally.

You might want to look at adding trim tabs for help with the leaning left.

Could try same diam trim tab anode with fin, set at middle position and turn gradually to opposite veering side untill stops. Won't hurt engine and is a much less costly option than buying external trim tabs. Used to have a standard trim tab anode under anticav plate, have swapped it for one with larger fin, has compensated much better the steering torque veer when tiller driving going full throttle at hole shot.

I've ordered one to try out anyways. It can't hurt and is inexpensive. I do already have smart tabs. Not quite the same as real trim tabs, but they do help. I just would like to get that lean a little better.

Depending on your prop, if you didn't order the hi-perf one it will hit tab...

A tab on the motor will not help a lean. Only affects torque steer
