Merceuiser 3.0 lx backfire problem.

Usually on a 3.0 it is in the underside of the fuel pump. There's a nut on the bottom of it that allows you to unstrap the bowl around the filter. I don't think you need to shoe horn in an additional separator

Ok well from reading here ppl are saying to put one in. Also I didn't know the bottom filter as a water/fuel separater.

Scott is right you already have a separating fuel filter built into the pump. Now if you want and have the room (sounds like its tight) you can remove the filter in the pump and reinstall just the bowl. Then add a filter before the pump and even with the top of the tank.

You can just replace your filter using Mercruiser 35-8M0046752 FILTER KIT which is item 2
