I picked up a boat that has been sitting for 2 years on a trailer. To make a long story short, the engine will not turn over. I removed the starter and attempted to pry on the ring gear to no avail. It has very few hours on a new engine.
I am not toally convinced that it is the engine that is seized, but rather the outdrive.
I removed the plugs and sprayed each piston/cylinder with WD-40 and let it sit overnight. Still no movement.
Any ideas folks??

Re: Mercruiser 160 Need Help

Thanks Tommays for the link!!

After pulling the outdrive this evening, I found it is definitley the motor!

I talked to the guy I bought it from and he swears that he only had less than 30 hours on the new engine and that it ran fine when he put it up for the season. Needless to say, he refunded part of my money.

I find it hard to believe that rusty cylinder walls or lifter bores would cause it to lock up like that. Although, there is no place where I can get a tight grip or put the pry bar to try to break it loose. I tried the ring gear on the flywheel but I am afraid that I may break a tooth off or bend the sheet metal housing cover.
So, I guess for now I will put it up for the winter and get right on it in the spring.....
